We're Marching in with March
Next Potluck - Mark your calendar! Thursday, 3:30 PM
March 21, 2024 at Lopez High School! 1055 Mesa View Dr, Arroyo Grande
Lopez High School is putting on their second annual tea party potluck fundraiser for South SLO County Womenade. The entire school - staff, teachers and students all get involved
We serve as the honorary PTO for the school and have formed a very close connection with them. The school has a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, which is a school wide approach aimed at establishing positive student culture and individualized behavior supports necessary to create a safe and effective learning environment for all students. We supply funds for the school's PBIS program and, along with many others in the community, for their wonderful Wolf Den "closet" that carries free clothing and other supplies for students in need. We also support their prom and graduation efforts to help students participate, who normally can't afford the expense of these experiences. With our partnership with the SLO Foodbank, we also supply the food for the food pantry for food insecure students every other week. The leader of our Nutrition Team, Mary Anne Morgan, coordinates this effort with the Foodbank, the school - led by Rebecca Weyer-Walzer, their Classroom Support Instructional Assistant for Alternative Education and the students.
Mark your calendars, the April Potluck will be on Sunday, April 21st from 2 to 5 at Ann McDowell's home - 1793 Farroll Rd., Grover Beach
Hygiene Essentials Drive April 1 – 30, 2024 Robin Pisz, leader, with great assistance by Candace Guldeman
Our Hygiene Essentials Drive (formerly known as Toiletries Drive) will run from April 1 – 30, 2024. Womenaders have been terrific supporters of this drive for the last six years. We are in our 7thyear of the hygiene essentials drive. Toiletries are one of the most requested items by low income people. People using Cal Fresh (California’s Food Stamps) cannot use it to purchase toiletries.
Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford many of the everyday hygiene and personal grooming products most of us take for granted. Poor hygiene and hand washing cause sickness and disease. Poor hygiene can also cause social rejection and may also lead to bullying, low confidence and low self-esteem. One in three families has difficulty affording personal hygiene products.
There are 3 opportunities for people to donate: 1) buy products 2) cash donation 3) Amazon Wish list

Project Updates
Laundry Pop Up – Belinda Benassi - leader
The Laundry Popup on Saturday February 17th was very successful. We were able to help a number of families with their laundry. Our efforts hit some positive notes for some people. One person declined our offer but upon learning what we were doing, gave us a $50 cash donation. Another person accepted our help, and once they learned about our efforts donated $15 for future pop-ups! The next event will take place on March 16th in Nipomo. We are still looking for a few more volunteers to help on a consistent basis for a couple of hours each time. Please let us know if you would like to help out. We only need 3 volunteers each month, and if we get a good list of volunteers, each person would only need to help out once a quarter!
Nipomo Food Distribution – Rosemary Cleaves, Sue McCutcheon, and Mary Anne Morgan - project leaders
The next food distribution at Nipomo Elementary School will be March 12, 2024 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM.
Help needed:
Volunteers for Hygiene Essentials Drive: collection sites, sorters, packers and drivers! Robin will be at the next potluck with signup sheets
Raffle prizes – we need donated raffle prizes for our annual raffle prize drawings. Also a volunteer to help secure raffle prizes from organizations eg. Hotels, spas, theaters etc.
Occasional volunteer at monthly food distribution on the second Tuesday of each month at Nipomo Elementary School
Hosts for future potlucks - please consider spreading the word throughout South SLO County and inviting your network of friends to join us.
