An Amazing Outpouring of Generosity of Toiletry Donations!

Where have all the toiletries gone??!!!

They say it takes a village to help out in emergencies. It also takes a village to pull off a successful toiletries drive.

Let us take you through the marvelous toiletry drive South SLO County Womenade held in pictures.

First, a huge thank you to the many, many donors who bought and brought the huge collection of toiletries to the various collection sites. We estimate that between $6,000 and $7,000 of toiletries were donated!

Second, another huge thank you to the three teams who organized the collections:

  • The Trilogy Service Club in Nipomo led by a team of Judy Woo, our Trilogy Womenade liaison, and Cathy Arvizu, Kim Johnson and Robin O’Rourke with 4 drop off locations.

  • Sharon McDaniel with her friends Debby Swenson, Lori Wertz are also conducting a toiletry drive in central and northern South SLO County with 4 drop off locations

  • Margie Salame and the Pismo Beach-5 Cities Rotary Club

Third, another huge thank you to the many drop-off sites around south SLO County:

  • 1166 Trail View Place, Nipomo

  • 1392 Vicki Lane, Nipomo

  • 1402 Vista Tesoro Place Nipomo

  • 1166 Trail View Place, Nipomo

  • Avila Bay Club, 6699 Bay Laurel Place, Avila Beach

  • McDaniel Reporting, 1302 Osos Street, SLO

  • 2342 Willet Way, Arroyo Grande (Cypress Ridge)

  • 903 Sycamore Drive, Arroyo Grande

  • 241 Elaine Street, Pismo Beach

Fourth, another huge thank you to the sorters (unfortunately we don’t know who they all are) from each group who worked very hard to organize and sort the massive, glorious abundance of toiletries! Finally, thank you to the delivery teams including:

  • Candace Guldeman

  • Cathrine and Scott Arvizu

  • Margie and Eddie Salame

  • Rosemary Cleaves

  • Sharon Ellis

  • Susan McCutcheon

The toiletries drive ran from June 16 to August 15, 2021. Each site put out boxes to collect the toiletries.

Daily the donations were brought in and were eventually consolidated. Here are some pictures of the collection of items at each of the main collection sites: The collection at Trilogy:

All the locations expressed immense gratitude for helping to eliminate hygiene poverty in our community. Other projects need a leader Now that you’ve read about this project and what a difference it made, we have another project that we need a leader for. At Thanksgiving time we try to give a number of families Thanksgiving baskets filled with targeted foods that they would love for Thanksgiving. Last year we gave baskets to 50 families. I hope someone is moved to want to lead this effort. Training is available!!! Please email us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com to volunteer! If you have a project you would like to do and need a sponsor organization, please let us know. Others that we have done in the past are socks for the homeless, new books for Christmas for students and school supplies. This is how it works: The project leader responsibilities include collecting, getting the word out, contacting the agencies and making deliveries. Womenade will put it on our Facebook page, write about it in our newsletters and connect you with the people at the appropriate agencies. Diapers needed

It wouldn’t be a newsletter from South SLO County without at least one ask! The county nurses are in need of size 5 and 6 diapers. If you would like donate some let us know at sslocwomenade@gmail.com and we will let you know where to deliver them. Thank you in advance. Showcase
