We Were on the News!

Did you see us?  We were on KSBY Monday evening at 5:00PM! Here’s the link!

Success! - Hygiene Essentials Drive

Over $26,000 of hygiene essentials collected!

South SLO Womenaders, friends, neighbors, relatives and unknown good people – You made this project sing.  First, a round of applause for our tireless project leader, Robin Pisz and her trustworthy assistant Candace Guldeman!  Robin counted, catalogued, sorted and priced each item as it was delivered! WOW! What a difference that made in our sorting jobs. Many thanks to the hundreds of donors, sorting and driving volunteers.  They say it takes a village and this is an example of how true that is.

This year we raised over $26,000 in hygiene products. To put that into perspective, here are a few of the products we collected:

  • 1,000 toothbrushes

  • 600 tubes of toothpaste

  • 6,780 Diapers in over 70 boxes

  • 611 bars of full-size soap

  • 80 full-size body wash

  • 228 containers of deodorant

When all was said and done there were almost 200 boxes of hygiene products delivered to 24 agencies.  We have received many messages of gratefulness with how much these products will help the clients in need in South County!

Next Potluck - The Trilogy Service Club

The Trilogy Service Club is holding a closed group fundraising event for South SLO County Womenade on May 15. It’s called Hats and High Tea and includes a “Fund-a-Need Paddle Raise”.  We are very grateful to Carol Morrison and the Trilogy Service Club for all the incredible hard work and dedication that has gone into making this an amazing event.

Next Potluck – Friday, June 28th at 6PM at Mariam Shah’s home at 2410 Green Place, Arroyo Grande.

 Projects

Laundry Pop Up – Belinda Benassi - leader

At the April Laundry Pop-Up the team of Belinda, Shiela and Richard Semena and Sandy Strohman helped people with 34 loads of laundry at the Laundromat in Arroyo Grande.  One young man shared that he was going to use the money we saved him to refuel his car.  He shared he is struggling and was having to chose between laundry and gas for his car!

The next Laundry Pop-Up will in Grover Beach on May 18th from 10AM to 12 Noon.

Please consider joining us in the future to pay for 3 loads of laundry per person! It’s a fun event and very rewarding.  Each month we only need about 3 volunteers. Belinda Benassi leads this program and could use a few more volunteers. If we had a larger list each volunteer could do it once a quarter! Contact us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com and we’ll put you in touch with Belinda.

Nipomo Food Distribution – Rosemary Cleaves, Sue McCutcheon, and Mary Anne Morgan - project leaders

This picture of us after the March distribution - where 340 families received food - was put out on the SLO Foodbank Facebook page. We work with the SLO FoodBank and Nipomo Elementary School to make the Food Distribution happen. The May Food distribution is on Tuesday May 14th at the Nipomo Elementary School (always the second Tuesday of the month). Thank you SLO Foodbank and all our fabulous volunteers! Let us know if you want to be on the substitute list.
