OH MY! LOOK AT WHAT YOU’VE DONE! IN A GOOD WAY
WINTER BREAK FOOD BASKETS FOR 85 FAMILIES!
A wonderful team of donors and shoppers bought and brought tons of food to Mariam’s home in Arroyo Grande for the Winter Break Food Basket Project for 85 families. Kristin Heenan led an amazing food drive and food came in from the 4 corners of SLO County. Thanks to grants from the city of Grover Beach and the county supervisors we were able to purchase a 10 lb spiral ham for each of the 85 families! And many thanks to Taco Works in San Luis Obispo for donating 85 bags of their delicious taco chips! Our fabulous shopper, Marcella Gelman, shopped for all the gaps in our food list. We secured places to keep the hams, cheese and butter refrigerated and all the other foods were counted and sorted in Mariam’s amazing, magical garage.
On Saturday a team of volunteers sorted and counted and then on Thursday, another team of volunteers packed and delivered all the food. Each family received 4 full grocery bags which were color coded so each family received the correct food. A great time was had by all.
Many thanks to all who participated in any way. These food basket projects take a village and Womenaders are the village!
MORE GOOD NEWS!
We Have Met Our Matching Grant!!!
We are so grateful for the generosity of our donors. We have exceeded the goal of receiving $7,000 in matching grant funds by a WIDE margin! We thought you all would like to know. Of course, that doesn’t mean that we don’t want or need any more donations! We will gladly receive any further donations to further our work in providing assistance to people in need in South SLO County. Thanks to everyone who helped us garner this important matching grant and to the matching grant donor!
AND CAN YOU STAND IT, THERE’S MORE GOOD NEWS!
We had a very generous donor give us $2,500 to buy toys for children in need this holiday season. We were able to help two of our agencies, South County Youth Coalition and the Department of Social Services in Arroyo Grande and Nipomo purchase targeted toy gifts that children had specifically asked for! Their toy shelves were empty. Secret Santa made the lives of so many children absolutely fabulous. Many thanks to our Secret Santa and to the shopping elves for making the season special for these children.
