Trilogy Service Club Hats and High Tea – Carol Morrison, President and the Trilogy Service Club Board and Committee
Carol Morrison, President of the Trilogy Service Club and her indefatigable committee threw the most amazing potluck fundraiser for South SLO County Womenade in the guise of a Tea Party that they marqueed as “Hats and High Tea” There were nearly 200 women at the party each paying our usual $50 attendance gift (or more !). Each table host had 10 people at her table with delicious potluck mouthwatering tea party offerings by her guests. Almost all the women dressed “to the 9s” and wore hats or fascinators! The committee gathered an array of marvelous silent auction items with treasures from hand crafted pottery to specialty hats, to catered specialty tea parties and to wines (of course)!
Wait! Wait! that’s not all! Four of the Womenade partner agencies gave their talks about who and what they are and do, and then the Tea had what they labeled a “Paddles Up” event. Starting at $200 plus, The MC asked all guests who would like to donate $200 or more to support the work of Womenade and the agencies we support. Many paddles flew up and committee members circulated, handing out envelopes to gather pledges and contact information. She did this twice more at the $100 plus and $50 plus levels!
There was such warmthfelt in the room from the generosity and outpouring of love for others! The efforts raised so much money to continue our mission in south SLO County for which we are so very grateful!
Lopez High School Prom
South SLO County Womenade serves as honorary Parent Teacher Organization for Lopez High School. This year we helped fund the high school’s senior prom as many of the students were not able to afford to attend. The Prom was held at the Madonna Inn on May 17, 2024 and a great time was had by all who attended including 65 students and 17 staff members. Here is a link to all the pictures from the event!
Project updates
Laundry Pop Up – Belinda Benassi - leader
At the May 18th Laundry Pop-Up the team of Belinda, Ann McDowell, Sheila & Richard Semena, Terri Zielinski, and Midori Foster helped people with 50 loads of laundry. The many customers were very grateful for this gift and gave blessings to all involved.
The next Laundry Pop-Up will take place on Saturday, June 15th in Grover Beach Hours: 10 am - 12 pm. Please consider joining us in the future to pay for 3 loads of laundry (wash and dry) ! It’s a fun event and very rewarding. Each month we only need about 3 volunteers. Belinda Benassi leads this program and could use a few more volunteers. If we had a larger list each volunteer could do it once a quarter! Contact us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com and we’ll put you in touch with Belinda.
Nipomo Food Distribution – Rosemary Cleaves, Sue McCutcheon, and Mary Anne Morgan - project leaders
This picture is of volunteers packing up food that Womenade augments for the food distribution every month. We work with the SLO FoodBank and Nipomo Elementary School to make the Food Distribution happen. The June Food distribution is on Tuesday June 11th at the Nipomo Elementary School (always the second Tuesday of the month). Thank you SLO Foodbank and all our fabulous volunteers! Let us know if you want to be on the substitute list.
Next Potluck - Mark your calendar!
Friday, June 28th at Mariam Shah’s home at 2410 Green Place in Arroyo Grande!

A second monthly Laundry Pop-Up day – with the success of our first Laundry Pop-Up project, we’d like to start a second monthly event and need a project leader and volunteers. The template and training are available.
The school year is almost over and our weekend brown bag food project (Lunch Buddies) has been very successful at the 6 elementary schools we serve. We need another team leader to volunteer to lead this program as we spread it to more elementary schools in the fall. The template and training are available.

Stepping Up! A wonderful volunteer gift – from time to time we get requests from agencies for larger items eg. Refrigerator, queen bed etc., and also donors who contact us that they have such items. The difficulty is coordinating these exchanges and for the larger items getting them delivered. One of our Womenaders read about this need in our newsletter. She is a busy working full time Mom. She wanted to do some hands on volunteering so she volunteered herself and her family (husband and two children) to make occasional deliveries of these items. They have completed their second such delivery – both refrigerators! Both experiences were great for the volunteers, the families, the donors and the agency advocate! Thank you Nicole DeMatteo!
