The Results are in – it was an amazing Teacher School Supplies Drive
Our community of Womenaders came out in droves to purchase school supplies for teachers in October. Many thanks to all donors! Much gratitude to Lisa Arakaki, Piper Adelman, Kim Heydy, Sharon McDaniel and Marguerite McCurley, the leaders of We Love Educators, who picked up supplies at the various drop-off sites, sorted, packed, took pictures and delivered the supplies for this South SLO County Womenade drive. There were enough supplies that every school in the Lucia Mar Unified School District will receive some supplies from Womenade! Please remember to send us either an email with total spent or in-kind donor receipt for your items purchased. It helps us to know how much we received in in-kind donations.
Next Potluck Dinner
January 17, 2023, Tuesday, our first potluck fundraiser of 2023, at 6PM at Lynn Heinrich’s home at 759 Avocet Way, Arroyo Grande on the mesa in Cypress Ridge. Mark your 2023 calendars! It feels like a long time away but it will be here before you know it!
We are looking for hosts for future potlucks – big or small. As we said above it doesn’t have to be huge to be a success. Please contact us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com if you are interested. We are trying to broaden our reach to new members and other areas in south county eg. Shell Beach, Nipomo, Oceano, 227, Huasna etc.
WHAT’S GOING ON?
Holiday Food Baskets
The Thanksgiving Food Basket Project is off to a great start! Kristen Bertsch Heenan is masterfully leading the project for us again this year. The Sign-Up Genius is almost full except for the need of 17 more boxes of masa harina and a couple more packers on November 17th. Thank you to all who have signed up to purchase items to make Thanksgiving a true one for many of our families in need. Here is the link.
Sign-ups will run through Thursday, November 10, 2022 so we have enough time to fill the gaps by November 17th, delivery day. This year we hope to provide Thanksgiving food baskets to 120 families primarily through the First 5 Early Learning Centers and the Early Head Start Step by Step programs in South SLO County.
But wait there’s more!!! We are working with the City of Grover Beach to make a second delivery to 50 families in need in Grover Beach before the holiday break December 15th. The holidays are stressful times for food insecure families as the family is home for almost 3 weeks, and they don't have school breakfast and lunch to help out. If you want to do more or if you missed out on the Thanksgiving baskets, we will have another Sign-Up Genius coming out on November 27th!
KUDOS to Taco Works in SLO! They have once again offered to fulfill our need for taco chips for all of our 170 families! Support our local taco chip makers!
Thanks to Marcella Gelman
We are partnering with the SLO Foodbank and their Season of Hope campaign. Marcella Gelman volunteered to pick up food from a food drop off barrel at one of the sites from October 10 through December 15th. Whatever food we pick up we can distribute to our families in need!! Thank you Marcella!
Ideas to Raise Funds
One of our Womenaders has been handcrafting and sewing items and selling them at tag and garage sales and other craft locations. She gave all her proceeds to us and has raised nearly $3,000 for us this year. She says it’s easy to do especially if you have a hobby and like to make things and wonder what to do with them. Let us know if you want to do something similar and we will put you in touch with her.
